Internship in Impact analysis

What to Expect

The Circle of Young Humanitarians (CYH) is a politically neutral non-profit association based in Zurich. It was established in Spring 2021 by students and young professionals in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Through dialogue, learning spaces and community engagement, the organisation encourages young people to internalise humanitarian values such as dignity, empathy, impartiality and restraint, and to connect them with their own professional skills and spheres of influence.

The integration of perspectives shaped by a different humanitarian and societal context offers additional value. Exposure to non-European viewpoints supports internal reflection and helps identify blind spots in how participation, impact, and engagement are assessed.

The internship supports further professionalization without overstretching internal capacities. Tasks and outputs are clearly defined, and supervision structures are in place to ensure meaningful guidance and realistic expectations.

Finally, the internship is designed as a potential entry point into longer-term engagement with the CYH, for example through project-based collaboration, or alumni involvement, thereby supporting continuity and institutional memory.

Main Tasks

The primary focus of the internship is the systematic qualitative analysis of impact stories within the Circle of Young Humanitarians. These stories help illustrate how humanitarian values, once internalised, translate into concrete actions, professional decisions and initiatives across different sectors.

During this internship, you will:

  • Review and map existing YHS data sources, such as participant surveys, feedback forms, engagement metrics, and qualitative inputs. You support the cleaning, structuring, and documentation of these datasets to ensure internal usability and continuity.
  • Structure and prepare footage and documentation of collected qualitative “impact stories”, ensuring clear and goal-oriented communication of the CYH’s impact on communication channels such as social media and the website.
  • Conduct descriptive and exploratory analyses focusing on participation and diversity patterns, self-reported learning outcomes, engagement and satisfaction levels, perceived relevance, and follow-up intentions or actions.
  • Identify strengths, gaps, and limitations within the existing data. This includes clarifying what conclusions can be drawn and where claims should remain cautious.
  • Support the development of clear, evidence-based impact narratives for internal use and external communication. In addition, practical recommendations are formulated on how future YHS data collection can be improved, including survey design, timing, and formats.

Expected outputs include an internal YHS impact brief for the CYH’s leadership and teams, structured inputs for external reporting and partner communication, and concrete suggestions to strengthen future impact measurement.

Depending on capacity and priorities, you may also support tasks in areas such as the following:

  • Structured day-to-day support to the CYH’s President and Board, such as preparing internal documents, summaries, and overviews, and supporting the organization of information and processes.
  • Drafting texts or supporting visual preparation for social media posts, while responsibility remains with the CYH’s Marketing and Communications team.
  • Contribute to the development or refinement of standardized templates for Sponsoring and Partnerships, such as one-pagers, pitch outlines, or partnership decks, ensuring consistency in language, values, and evidence-based impact framing.
  • Work on brochures and documentation, helping revise or create explainer materials aligned with CYH’s humanitarian principles and documented impact.
