Internship in Information management
What to Expect
Caritas Switzerland is a humanitarian organisation engaged in development cooperation and emergency response, with a strong focus on data-driven programme management and evidence-based projects.
During this internship, you will support the design and implementation of data collection tools (e.g. using KoboToolbox or ODK), contribute to data cleaning and validation, and assist in maintaining structured datasets for programme indicators. You will also support basic data analysis and the development of dashboards or visualisations (e.g. using Power BI or Tableau) to communicate key findings. The focus is on strengthening data workflows and ensuring data quality rather than working with highly complex or production-level systems. Throughout the internship, you will contribute to improving how data is collected, analysed, and used for programme learning and decision-making.
Main Tasks:
1. Data Collection Support
- Assist in designing digital surveys using KoboToolbox or Open Data Kit (XLSForm).
- Test questionnaires before deployment.
- Support enumerators during data collection.
- Assist in conducting data quality checks.
2. Data Cleaning and Management
- Clean, organize, and validate datasets using Microsoft Excel.
- Identify inconsistencies or missing values and communicate with the respective team accordingly.
- Assist in maintaining up-to-date datasets for program indicators.
3. Data Analysis and Visualization
- Assist in creating Analysis dashboards using Microsoft Power BI or Tableau.
- Assist in producing data visuals, tables, summaries, and key findings.
Your Profile:
- Undergraduate student in Information Management, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Social Sciences with quantitative focus or related fields
- Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Knowledge of basic statistics, data visualization, and survey building is highly desirable
- Experience in KoboToolbox, Open Data Kit, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, QGIS or ArcGIS is a plus
- Data confidentiality awareness
- Motivation to learn (Strong interest in learning and exploring new tools)
- Ability to work both within a team and autonomously
- Excellent communication skills and strong attention to detail
